POLLAKS is proud to announce a new chapter in curatorial collaborations: together with NOMI Winebar, we unveil a biannual series of commissioned works by outstanding contemporary artists — beginning with Colombian-German painter Sebastian Jáuregui.
Vernissage: January 22, from 6 PM at NOMI.
Jáuregui, a graduate of London’s Royal College of Art, has built an international reputation for his evocative paintings and sculptural works that navigate cultural identity, memory, and collective ritual. His pieces are held in prominent private collections across Europe and the United States.
For this commission, Jáuregui presents a deeply personal body of work, rooted in the superstitious rituals of his Colombian upbringing in Germany. Childhood beliefs — once dismissed as trivial — reemerge in his practice as vital, living links to cultural identity. Exploring how superstition operates as a universal strategy for confronting the unknown, Jáuregui offers a lens into the fluid interplay between personal memory and broader societal narratives.
'Superstition' is on view until June 2025 at NOMI Winebar
